I Can't Believe We Are Still Falling For This...

I tried getting out. Tried to leave the nutrition realm alone, but it pulls me in. Like a moth to a flame. More like a magnet where I get all spun around and focused on it. Allowing it to consume my thoughts.

Last night was one of those occurrences. Watching Storage Wars maybe, the commercial came on about this new, organic, VEGAN butter spread.

Here we go again.

Just to be clear. I am not a dietitian and quite honestly could care less if you listen to me. What I am is, is seeing beyond what commercialization presents. This is nothing more than a common sense prose that if one person reads they will at least be informed. Maybe then that one person will share with another and another etc.

So. No "I can't believe it's not Butter" is not butter. It says so in the title. So therefore they do not use real butter ingredients and therefore they use oils which can be manipulated and altered to mimic butter feel and artificial taste added for the all-around convincing of the mind that this could be a butter replacement.

Well, just like an opiate convincing the mind that pain is gone when the area hurting is still inflamed, it is a trick. A trick of the mind scientists work very hard to convince you of.

It isn't about good or bad as much it is about being educated. In reality, food scientists, biochemists, the government regulation on food, overproduction of cows and slaughter houses, GMO blah blah blah might be killing the planet long-term, but it's also keeping people alive right now. Yea, a necessary evil unfortunately. Not to mention how many people stand against GMO but aren't willing to quit a cushy job to go out and harvest their own fields. Seeing weather, bugs, or rot come in and take out hundreds of hours of work just like that. How many people are willing to raise their own animal, feed them grass, give them a name, only to slaughter them and process their own meat?

Nah, not too many.

However, the point again here is knowledge. Knowing what marketing means. Knowing that by seeing the words VEGAN or ORGANIC or NO ___________ ADDED that these are marketing techniques which are in fact, too good to be true.

It's sad to think that we cannot trust commercials. Wait. No-one said we should be able to trust them. Is all they promised was that they have a product and if they convince us we need it, then they did their job. It's why marketing is such a large and appealing career. It can be the extent of a legal con-man but not all are.

What is happening is that we have to educate ourselves if what we are looking for is in what we purchase. If you simply aren't willing to do even the slightest bit of investigating, then that's fine. Go with what you are told. Unfortunately, you will be told a lot of things and if you don't take the time to do even a slightest bit of education, you're going to get screwed.

Again, it isn't butter and even plastic is vegan. So......It's not much different than it always has been. The company Unilever figured out that by putting the word VEGAN on something it can raise products to those hippies, um, I Mean, consumers. lol
