Visually Captivating.

Image
Movies have one benefit over books. They reach a larger audience, easier. Otherwise, they fail in every comparison when it comes to the intent of telling a story through the mind of the author. A visual representation of an idea is unique to that individual, which is why when we read something, we all have a slightly different interpretation. In other words, the pictures displayed meant to represent someone’s vision, may fall flat as to what you would have depicted. Take a movie like Transformers.  I personally would have thought of a different, smaller rendition, of the aliens as vehicles. I would have made them less human, more animal in nature. I wouldn’t have had them conversing with us as equals, but instead us to them like a master to its dog. Sure they could overpower us, but so can all sorts of animals we master. I think this could have added a depth to the characters and significance of the various story lines. Visual representation of thought.  A depiction of wh...

The Good, The Good, and The Good.

Image
Light is considered "good," because throughout life, lack of light inhibits our ability to see, interpret, and sense danger. I feel, because the sun produces light that plants need to live and almost all organic beings need to survive, that light makes perfect sense as the representation of all that is "good," in the world. Darkness is indicative of evil right? Like, all the bad things happen at night, darkness is the absence of light, darkness is colder, lonelier, and biologically discounts one of our best senses, sight. With darkness being the root of all evil, the sum of all fears, what is it about the light that makes us so at peace? After all, would I rather see my death coming at me, or have it be a surprise out of the darkness? Would I rather live in the shadows or be exposed by the light to those I otherwise wouldn't want to know certain things about me. Isn't the internet a form of "light," where aspects of ourselves we try to keep hid...

We've Seen This Before.

Image
In the newest Star Wars film,  VIII, The Last Jedi , we see a weathered Luke Skywalker, his potentially heiress apparent, Rey, and an entire cast of people depicted in the previews to which I am giving nothing away. NO SPOILERS!!! Throughout the Star Wars franchise we find there is this battle from the Dark Side and Light of who is to "win". Jedi are the knights of The Force (someone is going to tear this apart I know) and fight for the rebellion out of default it seems because there needs balance in "The Force" from the "Dark Side" wanting to take over.  In the latest trilogy, the Dark Side is represented by The First Order and they are doing what the Dark Side has always done in the previous movies, and all throughout the franchise, including the cartoons.  So, what we have here is a battle between good and evil, light and dark, and there is this underlying balance of "The Force" that is the median between them both. In the TV show Sp...

Respect Your Elders, Learn From the Kids.

Image
Time on earth seems to be associated with a sort of wisdom we are all expected to respect. Time on earth allows for enough ups and downs of experience that the survivor must have some insight, knowledge, that they have worth sharing. If I have a coworker of 30 years my senior, does it not behoove me to listen to how they've approached life to see how I can make it that far? What about a parent with high school graduates as kids? Would they be able to give me the best advice on how to do what they've done? The smaller children all just living life, while an adolescent boy hangs on with strife.  The expected answer is yes to all. Saying yes to the time one has served here and less on the quality of it. Unfortunately, there is no grade to life. There is no report card I can check on as a reference to how this person has done what they so apparently have done. Yes, they might have worked at the same job for 40 years, but does that necessarily make them good at it? Or does it ...

Not My Words.

Image
I wish I could take credit for something, anything good I’ve done. However, I am able to say with great joy I cannot. I cannot take any compliments for I am at best a tool used in the process of someone’s life. What I can take credit for are the mistakes. I have made plenty, have suffered, and have learned from them. Choosing to see the benefits in mistakes and removing judgment and guilt, old habits die hard. What I am able to do and say, if I allow the words to come rather than coming up with my own motive is way better than anything I could have ever created. Words dance in my head waiting to be birthed. Concepts that I am unable to develop until I sit down and write. I want to say these words are the words from God himself, but unfortunately the words cannot do HIM justice. A memoir exposing the internal thoughts that plagued my own life.  Helping in the world takes more sacrifice than I expected, and in ways I never thought. I was willing to “work hard,” though ...

Misnomer.

Image
I knew of this woman growing up whom all the kids made fun of and were skeptical about. This person wore dresses and identified as a woman, though she was initially, biologically, a he. I didn’t know of any fetish, or deep-seeded reasons why she did this at the time, I just saw it as a choice. Her name was Janice and through coincidental run-ins throughout life, either at the Wal-Mart or a gas station or seeing her from the playground at school, this woman was definitely more significant because of what she chose to show the world versus what we all thought she should be. The agenda of a small town where what I gathered to be a strict boundary between male and female ranged from women being "housewives," and less say in the house’s finances, to a man who chooses to write rather than play sports being a “faggot.” The problem wasn’t in what Janice decided to do with herself, but that she chose differently than other people’s beliefs. People allowed this to be THEIR problem...

Dopamine.

Image
Dopamine rush it its finest. The rush of a possible pleasure mixed with the release of the angst of getting caught. The thrill of potentially, "getting away with it," combined with the pleasure received from the act itself. We are not creatures of satiation, we are creatures of pleasure. Our body wants to survive and does this in the most manipulative ways, or at least we manipulate ourselves to justify behaviors otherwise would have never been. We see this when we defend our side in an argument, when we lash out due to hurt, when we fail to see another's point of view. The weaker the person, the more the argument, the more the person has to prove themselves and lack willingness or the ability to be vulnerable to admit self was wrong. What is it about the drive to do something that gets us in trouble? After all, isn't our motive pure at some point? Aren't we just creatures, living and trying to stay that way? Why would doing wrong to another be taken so pers...
